Stop, take a deep breath and make a smart choice

Work with me on this one. My grandson, Daniel Mark, who I adore so much, has learned something new. His new thing is learning about his emotions. He told me this past week (when he brought his parents and sister to visit me) that when he gets frustrated, he knows what to do. I asked him what it was? He said…STOP (with one hand smacking on the other in a cross motion), take a deep breath (and he showed me how to take a deep breath with his shoulders up and down) then make a smart choice. I asked him what his smart choice was? I don’t know he told me. I guess that is a 3-year-old for you. But, if he can learn that simple thing he will be good and at least he is learning.

That got me to thinking...dangerous I know. I’m 57 and for the most part I have learned how to deal with my emotions. There are times however that I do get frustrated, or angry, even mad and I don’t always deal with them right. I am going to start listening to my grandson’s advise. However good that advise is I have even better advise from my Heavenly Father. Here are a few verses that show the help the Father has for us.

Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalms 121: 1-2 I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper to be with you forever

Hebrews 4:15-16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. The Message Version says it a little different at the end…So let’s walk right up to Him and get what He is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.

There isn’t a lot to add to that. I know that these days it can be hard to not have Mark to talk to. I can get a bit sad when I want to talk to him about things and it can be hard. In those moments I remember that my Heavenly Father is waiting for me to just ask Him for help. He is waiting with open arms and with grace and mercy to hear me and help me. Even our closest family and friends don’t always offer us grace and mercy. There isn’t anything better than to know I have a Father I can go to for what I need…at least for me that is the best thing ever.

So, Stop, Take a Deep Breath, Make a Smart Choice and go to your Heavenly Father and ask Him for the help, grace, mercy and peace you need!

Confident in His love
