open doors

This morning as I was driving to pick up my grandson, I was thanking the Lord for the day. I was asking to not miss any opportunities He may have for me. I don’t ever want to miss an open door. Isn’t it amazing when you pray and ask, He always comes through?

Right after this prayer, I got a text from a dear friend asking about my non-profit and how I was doing.  She wanted to send me an opportunity for it. The opportunity is with a company that provides help for people dealing with cancer and all that entails. There is a possible need for a widow’s support type group for the company. After all, when we lose our spouse, we need all the extra support we can get.

I don’t know what will come of this, but it got me to thinking about open and closed doors that we face. Sometimes those doors swing wide open and sometimes as we are walking through them, they close! Other times they continue to stay open. I have faced both. I know when I want to walk through what I believe is an open door I ask God to give me wisdom to know if this is from Him or something I am trying to make happen or do. That is where discernment comes in. I know if I am listening, He is speaking. It may be through my own understanding and prayers, through counsel from those I respect and listen to, or it can just be a true peace. I also ask Him to shut the door if it isn’t right. It says in Revelation 3:8 “I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.” This means that He opens the doors no one can open and closes the door no one can close. WOW! I am thankful for those open doors and also for those closed doors. He knows what is best for me and for you.

When I am praying about a situation, I pray Philippians 4: 6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  I believe when we seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him. He will faithfully guide us to and through His plan for our lives. Notice it is not our plans but His plan. I have to remember that because there are times I most definitely want my own way. I’m sure I am the only one…right!

I pray that when the Lord opens a door that He does what He did for Jabez. Jabez asked God in 1 Chronicles 4:10: Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked.

That is my prayer. That the Lord will show me what He has for me, open doors or close doors He wants for me, and to enlarge my ministry and allow me to do His will. What doors do you want Him to open for you? Ask Him and wait and see what He does for you.

 Confident in His love,

Isaiah 54:10
